Job Description

Site Construction Technician

Join the award-winning Parks Department as a Seasonal Site Construction Technician and help build and maintain Aspen's beautiful parks and open spaces. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a stunning mountain setting, whether entering the construction field or expanding existing skills. Training and support are provided by an experienced team. Responsibilities include assisting with the construction of parks, gardens, playgrounds, and other public spaces. City-managed vehicles and work carts are provided for transportation between job sites. Supervision is exercised and received directly from the Construction and Restoration Field Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions: Equipment Operation and Maintenance Operates vehicles, including cars, trucks, and electric or gas-powered work carts. Maintains tools and equipment in proper working order and reports any maintenance needs.

Public Interaction and Safety Responds professionally to occasional interactions with the general public and directs inquiries to supervisors as needed. Follows proper safety protocols and uses personal protective equipment (PPE) responsibly. Operates hand tools and light construction equipment safely and effectively.

Project Support Assists with construction and renovation of parks, playgrounds, fencing, irrigation systems, and other capital improvement projects. Assists with special projects, seasonal events, and other maintenance tasks as assigned.

Minimum Requirements: Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent, but not required. Experience: No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided. Interest in landscaping, natural resources, maintaining clean and welcoming public spaces, or environmental stewardship. Customer service, teamwork, or volunteer experience in outdoor or community settings is helpful but not required. Technical Knowledge: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (email), as well as familiarity with web-based platforms and online applications. Licenses & Certifications: Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date.

NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge, and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.

Kneeling: Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees Lifting: Occasionally up to 50 lbs. such as signs, posts, interpretive displays, bags of native seed and fertilizer, plant materials, etc. Pushing/Pulling: Ability to use upper extremities to exert force to press, draw, drag or haul objects in a sustained motion. Reaching: Extending the hands and arms or other device in any direction. Repetitive motions: Making frequent or continuous movements. Sitting: Remaining in a stationary position. Standing: Ability to sustain position for a period of time. Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Talking: Communicating ideas or exchanging information. Walking: Ability to move to traverse from one location to another.
