About the Position:

The Director of Safety is responsible for providing environmental safety and health services in a construction environment for all three of Sunesis Companies. This position will track and remediate risks to ensure injury prevention, illness and property damage prevention. In addition, maintain all knowledge of OSHA/EPA/DOT regulatory compliance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Responsible for conducting job site safety inspections.
• Responsible for managing the work of the two Safety Managers.
• Working with the Project Management Department to develop JSA and/or other job specifics documents.
• Coordinates safety training/orientation of employees and ensures training is current and meets regulatory requirement.

• Actively works to support a positive safety culture in coordination with the HR & Operations Departments.
• Performs inspections and helps with incident investigations, conducts safety audits, assists in the preparation of reports and interacts with Corporate EHS policies, regulatory agencies, consultants and vendors.
• Administers and maintains documents for all EHS policies, written programs and training programs.
• Maintains critical OSHA records and statistics, including the OSHA 300 Log, Total Case Incident Rates, and Accident Investigation documents. Provides accurate and timely reports to Corporate EHS
• Monitors risk management activities necessary to ensure the company maintains a safe work environment for employees and that they are in compliance with federal, state and/or local requirements.
• Participates and support corporate safety initiatives.

Qualifications/Skills:

• Knowledge of federal and state safety and health regulations and laws by OSHA and corresponding state and local agencies
• Experience teaching safety courses, first aid, OSHA courses preferred
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff and work well independently or on a team
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Systems knowledge (MS Office, Excel and Outlook)
• Proven time management and organizational skills
• Work involves physical demands typically found in a construction environment, such as but not limited to: prolonged standing, bending, lifting and/or moving materials
• Work is active in nature with frequent walking of construction sites
• High degree of risk management in terms of Safety around large and complex field work.
• Maintain appropriate PPE for the office and field staff

Education/Experience:

• Associates Degree in a related field or equivalent and relevant work experience. 
• 5+ Years' experience in Safety and Risk programs.
• OSHA 30 Certificate Preferred.
